EARTHWORKS

Automated Quality Assurance (AQA), or intelligent compaction, for earthworks has been designed to help roller drivers to achieve compaction the first time. AQA gives real-time pass counts and, with correlation, compaction figures correlated to plate bearing, CBR, LWD and SRD figures.

ONE

Rollers are fitted with GPS to record location and an accelerometer to measure material stiffness.

A trial panel shows how compaction increases when the material is exposed to a greater number of passes

TWO

A correlation is established between the increasing stiffness and increasing compaction of the material.

Conventional test values (CBR/plate bearing/LWD/SRD) are correlated against number of passes and stiffness.

THREE

Roller drivers have a target number of passes to hit and real-time stiffness information to enable them to keep track of what they have done.

The stiffness correlations allow reporting of conventional compaction measurements, with GPS referenced results for the whole area compacted.
