Roller Monitoring Technology

Compaction is possibly the most important part of the road construction process. The Optrix is designed to ensure that every square metre of asphalt is compacted properly and at the right temperature.

The hardware consists of a high-accuracy GPS system to track roller movements, ensuring every square meter receives the correct number of roller passes. Laboratory correlations are undertaken to ensure that roller passes correlate to target density. With full measurement coverage of the area under compaction, every square metre is assigned a density figure.

An infra-red temperature sensor is attached to the underside of the roller and continuously monitors the temperature of material under compaction. Both the temperature and roller pass data is fed back to the roller driver in real time, ensuring roller drivers can ensure all areas of compaction receive sufficient passes at the right asphalt temperature.
